Why is this taking place?
In China, there is a law called the One Child Policy, which allows each family only 1 child. Most families try for a son because a son can inherit land and perform physical labor. There was also an ancient preference of boys over girls in China. Parents neglect, abort, and perhaps even kill their baby girls in hopes to try for a boy.
Who is being affected?
Obviously the female population in China. However, men have a hard time finding wives since so many girls are "disappearing"
Statistics:
- 500 women in China commit suicide each day.
- 8 million women undergo abortions every year in China.
- Average of 35,000 abortions per day.
- 35.97 percent of women who have had an abortion have another shortly after.
